An Area of
Outstanding Natural Beauty with steep sided valleys, rock formations
and remote moorland not as often frequented by walkers as some of the
other dales. There are various starting points the main ones being Pateley
Bridge, Middlesmoor or Scar House. There is excellent public transport
access to Pateley Bridge via Harrogate and from further afield on Summer
Sundays and BH Mondays. Scar House Reservoir Dam and Nidderdale Rambler Map reading is essential for these walks. The relevant maps are Outdoor Leisure 30 Northern & Central areas (double sided) and the Nidderdale Explorer map
